Why have a Cancer Support Centre?

The Little Way Cancer Support Centre was set up in October 2003 to provide support for Cancer patients, their families and friends.  The diagnosis of Cancer can mark the beginning of a long and frightening journey, not just for the person who has received the diagnosis but also for their families and friends.

While medical concerns are addressed through the range of treatments available within the Health Services, many people feel that their emotional needs and those of their family and friends are not met.

This can leave people feeling anxious, isolated and helpless.

The Little Way Cancer Support Centre aims to meet this need by providing emotional support and practical help to people who have or have had Cancer, their families and their friends.

What happens in the Centre?

The centre operates on a drop in basis.
Those visiting the centre are met by trained volunteers who       offer supportive listening and provide practical information.
An extensive supply of relevent reading material is available.
Opportunity is provided for visitors to meet other who have undergone treatment for cancer.
Support groups are held for people sharing similar experiences.
One to one Councelling is available on an appointment basis.
Complimentary therapies, relaxation and meditation are available.
All Services, Classes, etc., are provided free of charge to people with cancer.

The Centre aims to respond to the needs of its visitors.  With this in mind visitors are always invited to offer suggestions regarding any additional services which they would like to see at the centre.

Who can use the Services?

The service is available to people of all ages who have been affected by Cancer.  The centre can be accessed without a formal referral, just by phoning or dropping in.

Is there a cost?

All the services available withing the centre are free of charge.
